Recommended Local Professionals

Here are some links to some recommended local professionals. As a home inspector, we often receive requests from homeowners for professionals to work on or around their homes. This sometimes puts the home inspector in a precarious position.  On one hand we are in the business of informing our clients of the condition of their home and usually giving ideas or tips for making repairs or corrections without throwing their wallet out the window.  Home Inspectors are bound by an ethics code and state licensing to not perform work on the homes we inspect for a set time.  One goal for most home inspectors is finding good contractors who we feel we can refer to our clients.  Don’t stop with one referral, it’s always recommended to get more than one quote and whenever possible get three quotes.

So, when getting these quotes ask questions, learn from contractor and then use that information to ask the next company. Also check with your neighbors for recommended local professionals. Get all three prices then go back to the one you felt most comfortable with and negotiate a price. After you have negotiated a price you need to have a written contract.  If the project is big enough you want to have the type or brand of materials spelled out, a work schedule and maybe even a deadline penalty. Make sure your contractor is licensed, insured and pulls applicable building permits.  If you are unsure if your contractor needs to pull a permit, call your local building officials office and ask them what permits are applicable to the job.  The contractor should show you the permit and paperwork. Typically the permit needs to be posted in the front window.

Well this post got a little carried away :). I started out wanting to simply add a few links to some local contractors who have worked on my home. My wife and I were completely satisfied and as a simple courtesy to the contractor I am providing their website links.
